Thinking about booking a tennis or padel getaway?
For racquet heads like us, tennis travel is a must. Who has already tried it? Who’s in? It’s a fine way to combine your passion for play with some well earned R&R - ideal to break out from routine and to indulge in the game you adore. In our experience there are so many ways to thread racquet sports into your time away; be that a bespoke sports holiday, booking a family resort, or checking in for a work trip. But we don’t want to keep any secrets from you - so we've pulled together some pro tips that we've learnt along the way:
A bespoke sports holiday. The post pandemic holiday market has exploded with sports-based travel. From local Mediterranean climes to long-haul destinations, it’s a great way to see the world with a racquet in hand. Whether you travel as a team of players from your local club, or as a gaggle of friends, check out all the facilities before you fly. Are the courts clay? Resin? Are there professional coaches for intensive training? Will there be any tournaments taking place to add a competitive edge to your trip? Some of these trips are classified as package holidays - flights and accommodation included which can drive down costs and work well for group bookings.
(Big) kids club. If you're heading off as a family, you'll be sure to check out the range of activities for any little ones in tow. But make sure you investigate what’s there for you as well! Many resorts cater for sporty tourists like us. In addition to a fully loaded gym and possibly a spa, increasingly you’ll discover a series of padel courts available to guests. As these take up less physical space and can accommodate more players, they tend to be more prevalent than full size tennis courts. And if they aren't available on site, the hotel may have struck a deal with nearby facilities so you can book where the locals play. Remember to inquire if there are additional costs involved with booking courts - better to avoid any hidden surprises once you're there!
All work and no play… No one said a city break business trip can’t be fun. Urban hotels often house small courts - sometimes indoors if the weather isn't always playing ball. It's never been easier to stay fit and healthy away from home, even when you're on the clock.
